Once Upon a Time...

From March of 2013 until June of 2015, the impertinent trio of James, Eric, and Haggis talked about Portland Theatre every week. They reviewed plays, interviewed theatre makers, and dissected the best and worst of the PDX Theatre scene.

They began as a podcast and joined the newly launched radio station XRAY.FM in March of 2014. 5 Useless Degrees and a Bottle of Scotch was a labor of love for these three. They spent roughly 10 - 20 hours a week (sometimes more) preparing each 1 hour episode. It was elucidating, but also exhausting. Over the course of 114 episodes, they were always striving to make 5UDBS more engaging and entertaining. If they had been independently wealthy, they might have continued on indefinitely. Ultimately, they felt it was best to just end the show, rather than compromise on their standards.

A few months after the show went off the air, they took down their website, along with their archive of 114 episodes. We are here to allow those episodes to live on. Among all the reviews and discussions, were a series of interviews, of which 5UDBS was particularly proud. These are conversations that bear repeated listening.

All of the shows that aired on XRAY (episodes 49 - 114) are still available in their archives: http://xray.fm/programs/scotch

But all 114 5UDBS podcasts can be found here: https://www.mixcloud.com/5UselessDegrees/
